Meal Planning Monday - the festive edition
The festivities are upon us. I feel somewhat of a fraud writing that as I'm currently cwtched up on the sofa listening to the baby monitor, thinking about an early night. However, it's undeniable that we are heading speedily into Christmas. My online shop (reserved some weeks ago) is heading it's way to us tomorrow, and I'm now at the point where if I've forgotten it then it's too late. Except for some fresh bread and the turkey which are being collected Christmas Eve and tomorrow respectively. Please remind me.
This is mine and M's first Christmas hosting, I'm oddly not nervous (it's just a roast after all) about the cooking, but getting the house into a shape whereby I was happy to host took a bit more work. Unsurprisingly we've meal planned throughout the festive period and our plan looks a bit like this.
Breakfasts: Porridge and/ or toast, except for Christmas day when it's croissants or warm rolls with jam and butter.
Lunches: Nigella's split pea and frankfurter soup has been made this evening to see us through for the next few days. Then after Christmas day it'll be leftovers - with turkey soup following shortly.
Dinners:
Monday: Beef and Guinness casserole (post up later this week) with mashed potatoes and brocolli
Tuesday: Leftover casserole with baked potatoes and veg
Wednesday: Nigella's ham in coca cola, with fried eggs and chips
Thursday: Christmas dinner - turkey, roast potatoes, stuffing, gravy, veggies, sausages in bacon. With Christmas pudding for dessert
Friday: Leftover turkey, ham, sausages and bacon, with mashed potatoes, veggies and pickles
Saturday: Turkey and sweet leek pie with midweek roasties and veg
Sunday: Leftover pie with roasties and veg
So that's our Christmas week - I hope you're spending time with those you love and whether you're big on the festivities or prefer something quiet and low key, that your days are exactly what you hope for.
Best wishes for a wonderful Christmastime
Penelope, M and Harry
